ば conditional (verb G3): くる → くれば
Core / Hypothetical Conditions & Logic
👀 Layer A: Visual Guide
📝 Quick Summary
The ば conditional form (仮定形 – かていけい) expresses “if X happens, then Y will result”. For the irregular verb くる (kuru – to come), the form becomes くれば (kureba).
Structure: くる ➡️ くれば
Example 1: あした たなかさんが くれば、たのしく なります (If Tanaka-san comes tomorrow, it will be fun).
Example 2: けさ にもつが くれば、でかけられます (If the package comes this morning, I can go out).

💡 Raya’s Hack
The Reading Rule for くる in ば Conditional!
Pay close attention to the initial vowel sound of くる ($kuru$):
– Negative form: くる ➡️ **こ**ない (konai – shifts to *ko-*)
– Causative form: くる ➡️ **こ**させる (kosaseru – shifts to *ko-*)
– ば Conditional: くる ➡️ **くれば** (kureba – **retains initial ku- sound!**)
Never say これば (koreba) or これば (koreba)! The correct form is always くれば (kureba).
🚧 Joy’s Mistake
Scene: Joy wants to say “If a package comes this morning, I can go out.”
Joy: 「けさ にもつが これば、でかけられます。」
(Kesa nimotsu ga koreba, dekakeraremasu.)
❌ Used “これば” instead of “くれば”!
Why?
Joy assumed くる shifts to ko- like in negative konai. However, for the ば conditional form of くる, the initial sound remains く (ku-), forming くれば (kureba).
Correct: 「けさ にもつが くれば、でかけられます。」 (If the package comes this morning, I can go out.)
