Example 2: かれは たぶん きません とおもいます (I think he probably won’t come).

TABUN vs. KITTO: The Reassurance Trap!
Pay close attention to the difference between these two adverbs:
– たぶん (tabun): ~50-70% certainty (Probably / Perhaps — neutral guess).
– きっと (kitto): ~90%+ certainty (Surely / I’m certain — strong conviction).
If a friend is nervous before an exam, saying “Tabun daijoubu desu” sounds doubtful (“You’ll probably be okay, I guess…”). Always use きっと (kitto) to express firm support and encouragement!
🚧 Joy’s Mistake
Scene: Joy is trying to encourage Ken before a job interview.
Joy: 「けんさん、たぶん ごうかく しますよ!」
(Ken-san, tabun goukaku shimasu yo!)
❌ Used “tabun” (probably) for encouragement!
Why?
Using tabun makes Joy sound hesitant (“You’ll probably pass, maybe…”). To show full faith and give genuine encouragement, Joy should use きっと.
Correct: 「けんさん、きっと ごうかく しますよ!」 (Ken-san, you will surely pass!)
