Use “Agemasu” when YOU give something to others, or when someone gives to someone else. Think of it as an arrow pointing AWAY from you.
Structure: [Giver] は [Receiver] に [Object] を あげます。

「私に」は絶対ダメ！
「あげます」の矢印は、必ず外側に向かいます。
自分に向かって矢印を飛ばしてはいけません！
× 彼は 私に あげました。
〇 私は 彼に あげました。
「私にくれる」ときは、別の動詞（くれます）を使います。
“Agemasu” arrows always point OUTWARD. You can never say “Give to ME” using Agemasu. The receiver cannot be “Watashi”.

Scene: Joy talks about watering the flowers.
Joy: 「花に 水を あげます。」
(Hana ni mizu o agemasu.)

Why?
おや？これは正解です！
「あげる」は人だけでなく、動物（犬に餌をあげる）や植物（花に水をあげる）にも使えます。ただし、自分より目上の人に使うときは少し失礼になることがあるので注意！
Wait, this is correct! You can use “Agemasu” for animals and plants too (feeding a dog, watering flowers). Just be careful using it with superiors (use polite expressions instead).
