GrammarBook N5: よ / ね (Sentence ending particles)

N5-G-053

よ / ね (Sentence Ending Particles)

Core / Conversation Flow

👀 Layer A: Visual Guide (直感理解)

📝 Quick Summary (まとめ)

文の最後に付けて、気持ちやニュアンスを伝える言葉です。
**よ (Yo):** 相手が知らないことを教えるとき、または自分の意見を主張するとき(!)。
**ね (Ne):** 相手に同意を求めるとき、または共感するとき(?/♪)。
“Yo” puts emphasis or gives new information (“I tell you!”). “Ne” seeks agreement or confirmation (“Right?” / “Isn’t it?”).

🔗 Connected Grammar (関連文法):

  • N5-G-054: かな (I wonder – Uncertainty)
  • N5-G-055: でしょう (Probably / Right? – Politer Ne)

🔍 Layer B: Deepening (深掘り)

💡 Raya’s Hack (攻略法)

ボールを「投げる」か「持つ」か!
会話をキャッチボールだと想像してね。
* **よ (Yo):** ボールを相手に強く投げる!「これ受け取って!」(情報の伝達)
* **ね (Ne):** ボールを二人で一緒に持つ。「これいいボールだね?」(感情の共有)
自分がボール(情報)を持っているなら「よ」、二人で持っているなら「ね」!

Think of info as a ball. “Yo” is THROWING the ball to someone who doesn’t have it. “Ne” is HOLDING the ball together with them.

🚧 Joy’s Mistake (よくある間違い)

Scene: Joy checks his watch. It’s 10:00.

Joy: 「今、10時です ね。」
(Ima, juuji desu ne.)

Ken: 「…え?今、時間知りたいの?」(Confused)

❌ Awkward usage!

Why?

Kenが時計を見ていない(時間を知らない)なら、「10時ですよ(教えてあげる)」と言うべきです。
「ね」を使うと、「あなたも知ってるよね?」という意味になり、Kenは「え?僕も時計見るべきだった?」と混乱します。

If Ken isn’t looking at the clock, he doesn’t know the time. You should inform him with “Yo” (“Juuji desu YO”). Using “Ne” implies he already knows or is looking at it too.
