~に行きます / 来ます (Go to do…)
Core / Purpose
👀 Layer A: Visual Guide (直感理解)
📝 Quick Summary (まとめ)
「何のために行く(来る)のか」という移動(いどう)の目的(もくてき)を表す表現です。「~しに行く」と言いたいときに使います。
Use this pattern to express the PURPOSE of going or coming (“I go TO do something”). The particle “NI” marks the purpose.
Structure: [Place] へ [Verb Stem] に 行きます。
([Place] e [Verb Stem] ni ikimasu.)
🔍 Layer B: Deepening (深掘り)
💡 Raya’s Hack (攻略法)
名詞(めいし)ならそのまま「に」!
「買い物(かいもの)」や「旅行(りょこう)」のような、アクションを表す名詞なら、動詞にしなくてもそのまま「に」をつけられます。
〇 買い物しに行きます (Go to do shopping)
〇 買い物に行きます (Go for shopping) – 短くて便利!
If it’s an “Action Noun” (like Shopping, Travel, Study), you can skip the verb stem and just add “NI”. “Kaimono ni ikimasu” is shorter and very common!
🚧 Joy’s Mistake (よくある間違い)
Scene: Joy goes to eat ramen.
Joy: 「ラーメンを 食べる に 行きます!」
(Ramen o taberu ni ikimasu!)
❌ Wrong!
Why?
辞書形(じしょけい)「食べる」は使えません。「ます形」の「ます」を取った形(Stem)を使います。
正解は「食べに行きます」です。
You cannot use the Dictionary Form (“Taberu”) before “NI”. You must use the Stem form (“Tabe”). Correct: “Tabe ni ikimasu”.
