GrammarBook N5: ~てください (The Polite Request)

  • 09 Jan, 2026
  • Com 0
N5-G-022

~てください (Please do)

Core / Requests

👀 Layer A: Visual Guide (直感理解)

📝 Quick Summary (まとめ)

相手(あいて)に何かをお願(ねが)いするときに使います。「~してください」は丁寧(ていねい)な指示(しじ)や依頼(いらい)です。
Use this pattern to make polite requests or give instructions. You must conjugate the verb into “Te-form” before adding “kudasai”.

Structure: [Verb Te-form] + ください (kudasai).

🔗 Connected Grammar (関連文法):

  • N5-G-015: Verb Groups (U/Ru/Irregular)
  • N5-G-023: ~ています (Te-form Continuous)

🔍 Layer B: Deepening (深掘り)

💡 Raya’s Hack (攻略法)

「ください」は「ちょうだい (Give me)」という意味!
「水をください」は「水をちょうだい」。
「食べてください」は「食べるアクションをちょうだい」という意味だよ!

“Kudasai” means “Please give me”. Just like “Water o kudasai” (Give me water), “Tabete kudasai” means “Give me the action of eating”.

🚧 Joy’s Mistake (よくある間違い)

Scene: Joy wants Ken to look.

Joy: 「見る ください!」
(Miru kudasai!)

❌ Wrong!

Why?

辞書形(じしょけい)「見る」にそのまま「ください」をつけてはいけません。
必ず「て形 (Te-form)」に変えてください。
正解は「見て ください」です。

You cannot attach “kudasai” to the Dictionary Form “Miru”. You must change it to Te-form first. Correct: “Mite kudasai”.
