な-Adjectives (Present & Negative)

📝 Quick Summary (まとめ)

「な形容詞」は、文法的には「名詞(めいし)」と同じグループです。
否定形(ひていけい)は、名詞と同じように「～じゃありません」を使います。
Na-Adjectives behave almost exactly like Nouns. To make them negative, add “ja arimasen” (or “dewa arimasen”).

Positive: きれい です (Kirei desu)
Negative: きれい じゃありません (Kirei ja arimasen)

「きれい (Kirei)」と「有名 (Yumei)」に気をつけて！
「い」で終わっているけど、これらはな形容詞です！
× きれくない
〇 きれいじゃありません

Trap Alert! “Kirei” and “Yumei” end in “i”, so they look like i-adjectives. But they are imposters! They are Na-adjectives. Never say “Kire-kunai”. Use “Kirei ja arimasen”.
