GrammarBook N5: Interrogative + か / も / でも

N5-G-073

Interrogative + か / も / でも

Supporting / Indefinite Pronouns

👀 Layer A: Visual Guide (直感理解)

📝 Quick Summary (まとめ)

疑問詞(なに、だれ、どこ、いつ)の後ろにつく文字で意味が変わります。
Changing the particle after a Question Word changes its meaning to “Some-“, “No-“, or “Any-“.

Particle Meaning Example
+ か (Ka) Some- (Unknown) 何か (Something)
+ も (Mo) No- (Empty) 何も (Nothing) *Use Negative verb
+ でも (Demo) Any- (All) 何でも (Anything)

🔍 Layer B: Deepening (深掘り)

💡 Raya’s Hack (攻略法)

「なんでもいい」は魔法の言葉!
「何を食べたい?」「どこへ行きたい?」と聞かれて、決められないときはこう言いましょう。
「なんでも いいです。」(Anything is fine.)
「どこでも いいです。」(Anywhere is fine.)
「~でも (Any)」は「制限がない」という意味なので、相手に任せるときに便利です!

“Nan-demo ii desu” (Anything is fine) is a super useful phrase when you can’t decide. “Demo” means “Any”, implying no limitation.

🚧 Joy’s Mistake (よくある間違い)

Scene: Joy enters an empty room.

Joy: 「誰も います。」
(Dare-mo imasu.)

❌ Grammar Crash!

Why?

「誰(だれ)も」「何(なに)も」「どこも」のときは、必ず後ろを **否定形 (Negative)** にしなければなりません。
× 誰も います (Daremo imasu)
〇 誰も **いません** (Daremo imasen – No one is there)
「も」は「ゼロ」を表すので、動詞も「ない」形にします。

“Mo” with question words requires a Negative verb. “Dare-mo” must be followed by “imasen” (not imasu). Think of it as “Not anyone is there”. (Exception: “Itsu-mo” = Always).
