~たいです (I want to…)

Supporting / Adjectives

👀 Layer A: Visual Guide (直感理解)

📝 Quick Summary (まとめ)

「何かをしたい(願望)」という気持ちを伝える表現です。
作り方は簡単。「ます形」の「ます」を取って、「たい」を付けます。
Use this pattern to express what you WANT to do. Remove “masu” from the verb and add “tai”. Note: Grammatically, it functions as an i-Adjective!

Structure: [Verb Stem] + たい です (tai desu).

🔗 Connected Grammar (関連文法):

  • N5-G-020: い-Adjectives (Tai behaves like this!)

🔍 Layer B: Deepening (深掘り)

💡 Raya’s Hack (攻略法)

「たい」は「い形容詞」の変装(へんそう)だ!
「行きたい」「食べたい」… ほら、最後に「い」があるでしょ?
だから否定(ひてい)する時は、い形容詞のルールを使うんだ。
× 食べたいません
〇 食べたくない です (おいしくない と同じ!)

“Tai” is actually an i-Adjective in disguise! It ends with “i”. So for negative, use the i-Adjective rule: Drop “i” and add “kunai”. “Tabeta-kunai” (just like Oishi-kunai).

🚧 Joy’s Mistake (よくある間違い)

Scene: Joy says he doesn’t want to go.

Joy: 「行きたい ません!」
(Ikitai masen!)

❌ Wrong!

Why?

「たい」は動詞ではありません!形容詞です。「ません」は使えません。
い形容詞の否定「くない」を使いましょう。
正解は「行きたくない です」です。

“Tai” is not a verb anymore; it’s an adjective! You cannot use “masen”. Use “kunai” instead. Correct: “Ikita-kunai desu”.
