The Difference Between "大人向け" And "大人向き"

“This anime is made for adults.” -> Otona muke

Intention vs. Suitability

1. 〜向け (~muke) = Made for / Targeted at 🎯

Focus: The intention of the creator or seller.
Used when a product, service, or event was deliberately designed with a specific group of people in mind. It is an objective fact about marketing or design.

これは外国人向けのガイドブックです。
(This is a guidebook made specifically for foreigners.)
女性向けのマンション。
(An apartment building targeted at women.)

2. 〜向き (~muki) = Suited for / Perfect for 🧩

Focus: The nature, characteristics, or compatibility of the item.
Used when something just happens to be a perfect fit for a certain person or situation, regardless of who it was originally made for. It is often a subjective evaluation.

このデザインは、若者（わかもの）向きです。
(This design is suited for young people. *It naturally fits their taste*)
この仕事は、体力（たいりょく）がある人向きです。
(This job is suited for people with physical stamina. *Compatibility*)

When you are giving your opinion about a job or a role, choosing the wrong suffix changes the meaning entirely.

✅ Right: 私の性格は、営業向きです。
