About Me

Hello everyone!

I am Mary Rose Joana, but you can just call me Meri-Sensei. My hobbies are watching anime and cooking. As I cook, I’ve realized how patient I am and how I pour my heart into everything I do. That is one of the qualities I bring into teaching. I am really patient and calm with my students, and I always put my heart into every lesson because I know learning Japanese can be challenging. But as long as you enjoy learning, it is not impossible.

In 2019, I studied Japanese from N5 to N4 for 7 months and passed the N5 level of the J-Test in just my fifth month. That same year, I traveled to Japan and had the opportunity to be interviewed at FMK Pangea, a radio station in Kumamoto. Then the pandemic happened, and I ended up living and working in Japan for more than a year. That experience helped me improve my Japanese and gave me real-life experiences that I now share with my students.

I’ve been teaching Japanese since 2022 while I was still a college student. I taught N5 and N4 learners aged 16–55 before graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines. After graduation, I continued teaching as a Japanese Foreign Language Instructor at the university level. Even though I’m already teaching, I still want to improve. That’s why I took the A2-1 Marugoto for Teachers Course in 2024 and am currently taking a Japanese Language Teaching course at the University of the Philippines. I believe learning never stops, and I want to continue honing my skills to provide quality education for my students.

You can expect a passionate and dedicated teacher who always gives my best and puts my heart into every lesson. I’ll make sure you won’t be afraid of making mistakes, as I’ll patiently guide you every step of the way. Let’s grow together, enjoy learning Japanese, and achieve your language goals.

みなさん、こんにちは！

メリー・ローズ・ジョアナと申します。メリ先生と呼んでください。趣味はアニメを見ることと料理をすることです。料理をする中で、自分はとても忍耐強く、何事にも心を込めて取り組む性格だと気づきました。その姿勢は、私が授業でも大切にしていることの一つです。私はいつも落ち着いて、一人ひとりの学生と向き合い、すべての授業に心を込めています。日本語の勉強は難しいこともありますが、楽しみながら学べば、不可能なことではありません。

2019年に7か月間、日本語（N5〜N4）を勉強し、学習を始めて5か月目でJ-Test N5に合格しました。同じ年に日本へ旅行した際、熊本県のFMK Pangeaというラジオ局でインタビューを受ける機会もありました。 その後、コロナ禍の影響で1年以上日本に住み、働くことになりました。その経験を通して日本語力を伸ばし、実際の生活で得た経験を今の授業にも活かしています。

2022年から日本語を教え始め、大学生だった頃から教師として活動しています。16歳から55歳までのN5・N4レベルの学習者を指導してきました。フィリピン工科大学で放送学の学士号を取得した後は、大学で日本語の外国語講師として教えています。 現在も、より良い教師になるために学び続けています。2024年には「まるごと A2-1 for Teachers コースを受講し、現在はフィリピン大学で日本語教育について学んでいます。学びに終わりはないと信じているので、これからも自分自身を磨き、より良い授業を提供できるよう努力しています。

私の授業では、いつも全力で、一つひとつのレッスンに心を込めて取り組んでいます。間違えることを怖がらなくても大丈夫です。あなたのペースに合わせて、一歩ずつ丁寧にサポートします。一緒に楽しく日本語を学び、あなたの目標を達成しましょう！
